We need help from all parents in maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all our children to thrive.
Should your child be unwell, please keep them home as far as possible, so as to protect other children and teachers from exposure to any contagious conditions, as well as to protect your own child from secondary infections brought on due to their reduced immunity. Should your child exhibit any symptoms of illness during the day, we will separate him or her from the other children and call you to pick up your child.
We will observe each child’s health on a daily basis, reporting the following conditions:
- Changes in behavior or appearance
- Skin rashes or itchy skin or scalp
- Boils or weeping skin rashes
- Signs of fever, flushed skin or shivering
- Complaints of pain or of not feeling well
- Vomiting or Diarrhea
- Drainage from the eyes
- Possible exposure to a contagious disease
We can also request that the child be picked up from School if:
- The illness prevents the child from participating in activities, including outdoor play, as determined by the staff.
- The illness results in a need for care greater than the staff feel they are able to provide without compromising their ability to care for the other children.
For the health and well-being of your child and others, your child must be home if they develop any of the following contagious symptoms until the child is symptom free for 24 hours or if the child’s doctor indicates, in writing, that the child may return to school:
- Appears severely ill – lethargic, lack of response, irritable, persistent crying, difficulty breathing, or has a quickly spreading rash
- A fever of or above 100.4 degrees
- Diarrhea
- Blood or mucus in the stools not explained by diet
- Vomiting
- Persistent abdominal pain or intermittent abdominal pain associated with fever, dehydration or other signs of illness
- Mouth sores or drooling
- Rash with fever or behavioral changes
- Head lice until after treatment has begun
- Streptococcal pharyngitis
- Scabies, until treatment has begun
- Chickenpox
- Impetigo
- Pertussis
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella
- Tuberculosis
- Hepatitis A virus infection
- Any child determined by the health department to be contributing to the transmission of illness during an outbreak
If your child has a communicable or contagious disease, please notify the school immediately so that we can take the necessary precautions. We will take the necessary steps to protect your family’s confidentiality, and will only share information relating to the communicable disease with those who need to know. We will also notify you if we become aware that a staff member has contracted a communicable disease.
